George Barris 88th Birthday Tribute

North Hollywood CA, Nov 24 2013 - George Barris started his car adventures around 1960. Since those humble beginnings as a car photographer, more than half a century has passed and the Barris name is still synonymous with customized cars. His daughter Joji and husband Barry handle the business of Barris Kustom Industries today, but George and his cars are regulars on the local car show circuit.

Fresh off the $4.7m sale of the original Batmobile, the King of Kustoms is living the rock star life and wears the krown well. Joji was allowed to go a little wild with an 88th birthday party for dad this time around. What better place to have than at the Barris store on Riverside in North Hollywood?

George offered his secret for success: “It just shows you what a fantasy world we live in. Here I am having a wonderful birthday and everybody says how old are you? I say, well you know I am able to vote this year! No matter what age you are, you’ll always be a happy person with wonderful friends from all over the world that come and visit with you.”

And what friends George has! Hundreds of the Barris “family” filled the store front to back. Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds) and Shirley Jones (Partridge Family) were among the celebs who showed up for birthday cake (not the icing Batmobile), and the gold draped “Barristas” provided backup to a great Marilyn Monroe lookalike.

High on the happiness scale, we figure George is going to have many more of these birthday parties. That would make us all happy.
